A father posed as his teenage daughter’s boyfriend to trick her into sending him nude photos of herself and then sexually abused her, a court heard.
The 41-year-old man, who cannot be named to protect his daughter’s identity, pretended to be a 16-year-old boy by setting up accounts on Instagram, AOL and a texting service in September 2013
According to New York publication Utica-Dispatch, the pair then began the 'relationship' online, where the defendant pressured the girl into sending nude photos of herself. She initially refused, but eventually sent some – which the father then used to blackmail her into sending more, threatening that he would send them to her father if she refused.
In November, the daughter said she no longer wanted to be in the relationship as all the ‘boy’ wanted to talk about was ‘sex and more sex’, Utica-Dispatch reports.
After the break-up, the girl received a text message from the supposed 16-year-old’s mother, claiming he (the boyfriend) had killed himself. At which point the father claimed his daughter’s ‘boyfriend’ had sent him the nude images.
Shortly after, he began sexually assaulting his daughter. And the abuse only came to light when the girl told her school nurse.
When police investigated, they found that the messages sent to her had been sent from within the girl’s home.
The 41-year-old father now faces jail and could be sentenced for up to 250 years, Syracuse reports.
“It is very emotional,” the father told Judge Sannes. “I’m giving away many years of my life.”
The 41-year-old father could be sentenced up to 250 years in jail, reports Syracuse.
He pleaded guilty to 12 charges including receiving and sending child sex abuse images at Herkimer County Court, New York.
