43-year-old man remanded in prison for beating his father and raping his mother in Edo State

Humphrey Omoregieva, a known drug addict and smoker' has been remanded in prison by an Egor Magistrates’ Court in Benin, Edo state, over alleged assault on his parents. The prosecutor, Cpl. Ayo Augustine, told the court that Omoregieva committed the offence on Aug. 1, at No. 294, Upper Mission, Benin.


Augustine told the court that Omoregieva had beaten up his father by hitting him with a piece of wood on his forehead, during an argument. He said that he also beat up his mother and raped her several times and maliciously damaged a sliding window in the house, valued at N80,000. .

The Chief Magistrate, Mr F.E. Akhere, however, said that the court lacked jurisdiction to entertain the case and ordered that copy of the case file be sent to the Director of Public Prosecution for legal advice and adjourned the case till September 8, for mention.
