Lets Start by Firstly defining what a single mum is because a lot of people get it mixed up. A single mum is A mum who is single handedly raising a child/Children on her own.
There are lots of reasons why women become Single mums. Times have changed and most women are choosing this option more, while some find themselves in this situation for different reasons.
Firstly a Child is a blessing to anyone irrespective of whether the child is being raised by a Single mum or both parents. Course truth be told a lot of married women are crying their eyes every night praying for a child.
Society has a way of labeling single mums and making It feel like they have committed a crime or broken the book of life while the men are allowed to get away like they played no role in it. This is the reason most women choose abortion and many of them have lost track of how many abortions they have done to date.
I will use this medium to share some REASONS with you as to why women become single mums.
Reasons
1) Unplanned Pregnancy
I Know that many people will come here crying that there's something called Condom and yes I'm totally all for Safe Sex but we all have being guilty of not always having protected sex especially with a long time boyfriend. There is a level of trust and closeness u will feel with your partner that sometimes u skip that condom ritual and next thing your pregnant. Remember some women have their principles and for some, abortion is a NO for them and they choose the option of birthing their baby and damning the consequences.
2) Widow
I believe if a woman whose husband is late and left behind kids, she automatically becomes a single mum. In this case she didn't choose it but circumstances beyond her control have turned her into one.
3) Divorcee
A woman who was married before and produced Kids from that marriage and is now divorced has become a single mum
4) Aging and Single women
Some women who are still single and are getting older decide to just go ahead and have a baby since marriage isn't coming their way yet. So if they decide to have IVF, sperm donor or find someone, they are choosing to be single mums and raise their kids alone
5) For Selfish Reasons
Some women are opportunist especially those celebrity whores that want to become famous or because of child support they get pregnant even when they know they were just a fling. Some go as far as getting pregnant as a way of trying to tie a man down for marriage or for personal gain especially when they know his married and they are just side chicks
6) Women who have decided not to marry
Truth be told not all women plan to ever get married. Some women have decided to leave marriage out and just have kids and raise them on their own.
7) Abandoned by their Irresponsible partners
Some women get pregnant and hope that things will work out but some men are irresponsible and neglect these ladies leaving them with no choice than to be single mums catering to their kids alone
8) Abusive Partners
Some women find themselves in abusive relationships with their partners and decide that they deserve better so they choose to leave the relationship and become single mums
9) Rape Victims
Some women become single mums through being raped. Some choose not to disclose as fear of anyone believing them or not wanting to be tagged or stigmatized
10) Planned Or Voluntary Pregnancy
Some women believe they are strong and very independent and can raise a child on their own irrespective of a man or not. So they go ahead and get pregnant by choice and decide to be single mums
11) Some women were either deceived or lied to by a boyfriend and after pregnancy the man abandons them
12) Alcohol and Drug Abuse
Some women leave an alcoholic or junkie to become single mums and raise their kids in a better environment.
Regardless of the situation I believe that Single mums deserve support and encouragement. As long as there is a child involved, people need to start showing support and stop labelling. Single mums work twice as hard as couples because its twice the job. The fact that a child is being raised by a single mum doesn't mean that they won't grow up to be successful and contribute positively to the society. Some single mums are doing way better than most couple put together so if you can't support them, then don't put them down. Every mum deserves to be respected whether she's a single mum or not because its not easy to reproduce another human being.
