Those who want to be Kogi State governor

Simon Ejembi

The Kogi State governorship election is considered a two-horse race between the incumbent governor, Capt. Idris Wada, of the Peoples Democratic Party and a former governor, Abubakar Audu, of the All Progressives Congress.

But there are 20 others vying for the position.

Wada, 55, who is a pilot and businessman, was elected as governor of the state in 2011 and is seeking a second term. Audu, 68, a former banker, who has been elected governor of the state twice, is Wada’s main opponent. He was governor from January 1992 until 1993 under Nigeria’s failed third republic and from May 1999 to May 2003.
