This is not the best of times for the Gospel-Tungba creator, Yinka Ayefele as he has lost one of his band boys in a lone fatal accident along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway.

According to reports, the truck conveying the band’s musical equipment ran into a ditch around 10pm Saturday night on the ever-busy expressway. The driver, while attempting to handle the impact, swerved off the road and crashed the truck, leading to the death of one of his band boys, while others in the truck also suffered various degrees of injuries.

The incidence reportedly started by some youths throwing stones at Muslims in the mosque during Juma'at prayers which later escalated to sporadic shooting, but for the timely intervention of troops and other sister security agencies, normalcy was restored and 24 hours curfew imposed. For now, there has been no report of death. However, 6 persons have so far been arrested in connection to the crisis and manhunt is ongoing for other perpetrators.

It was like a scene out of an action movie when about 6 soldiers attached to the 35 Artillery Brigade, Alamala Barracks, Abeokuta, Ogun State and led by one Major Musa, stormed the Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company ( IBEDC ) substation – Olumo business hub, Rounder – on March 6 and beat up Salau Adekunle, the man on duty, over poor power supply.

Workers of the Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company say they have become fearful in their office when the soldiers descended on Adekunle, the substation’s distribution officer, with horse whips, because, presently on the average, the barracks and environs get 5 hours supply daily, which falls short of the soldiers’ expectation.

Shoemaker Urges Buhari To Ban Footwear Importation

A United Kingdom-based shoemaker, Adesola Benson, has called on President Muhammadu Buhari to impose restrictions on the importation of certain footwear into the country.

According to Benson, such action will encourage local footwear manufacturers to go into mass production which will in turn have a positive effective on the economy.

The shoemaker who relocated from the UK told SUNDAY PUNCH that he was making plans to train 100 shoemakers as a way of ensuring that made-in-Nigeria products are available and patronised.

The entrepreneur who has his factory in Ikorodu in Lagos State pointed out that his aim was to make the town Nigeria’s shoe hub.

Benson noted that local shoemakers will succeed in their enterprise if the Federal Government would allow them to make footwear for paramilitary personnel instead of resorting to importation.

He said, “(Prior to now) I have been able to train about 10 shoemakers. Training is my area of specialisation. The local shoemakers will have breakthrough if Federal Government can encourage local manufacturers like us to make shoes for paramilitary personnel instead of importing. This will not only encourage us it will also boost the nation’s economy by patronising made-in-Nigeria goods. I am happy about the recent gospel of made-in-Nigerian goods being propagated by the Federal Government. It is another way to empower local manufacturers and also boost the nation’s economy.

Police Arrest Man Who Sold 17-month Old Baby For N200k

Bauchi State Police Command has arrested three women suspected to be “specialists” in child trafficking including one who sold a baby for N200,000.
DSP Haruna Mohammed, Public Relation Officer (PPRO) of the command, disclosed this on Sunday in a statement made available to NAN in Bauchi.
He said the suspects were arrested by detectives of the command on March 25.
