Iyanya to leave own record label

Iyanya Onoyom Mbuk, Nigerian entertainer better known as Iyanya, has announced his impending exit from Made Men Music Group (MMG), his record label of over four years.

The 29-year-old Kukere singer, who is a co-owner of the label, made the announcement on Monday morning, through his Instagram page.

“I’ll be launching my new label and new album soon”, Iyanya wrote.

He will be the second artiste to leave the record label after Emma Nyra departed the outfit in 2014.

Iyanya hit the limelight after winning the second edition of MTN Project Fame, a music talent show, in 2008.

The University of Calabar graduate started his music career in the R&B genre where he thrived with Love Truly and Iyanya, popular songs on ‘My Story’, his 2009 album.

Following the underwhelming performance of the aforementioned singles and the lack of commercial acceptability, Iyanya subsequently switched to Afropop.

Kukere, his 2012 single, was a nationwide hit and its accompanying video featured Etighi, a dance style that originated from Calabar.

Iyanya, according to his Instagram bio, is still signed to MMMG who handles his bookings alongside Upfront and Personal Global Management Consultants (UPGMC).

In 2014, Iyanya, Tekno, Baci, Emma Nyra and Selebobo, artistes signed to Triple MG, released a joint album titled ‘The Evolution’.
