Okada Rider Kills Wife For Answering Late Night Phone Call

Police in Gulu District, Uganda are holding a 38-year-old man who allegedly killed his wife for answering a late night telephone call. Investigators say, the suspect, who is a resident of Airfield sub-ward in Bardege, Gulu Municipality, hacked his wife to death on Thursday night before fleeing the scene of crime.

The suspect who is in custody is a motorbike rider based in Gulu town.

According to preliminary investigations, trouble started at about 10pm on Thursday when the deceased received a telephone call from an unknown person. Moments later, the suspect inquired who the caller was and accused her of having a secret lover.

He accused her of having an extra-marital affair, prompting a quarrel that culminated in a physical confrontation.
Mr Jimmy Patrick Okema, the Aswa Region Police spokesperson, says the suspect overpowered the wife and then reached for a hoe which he used to hack her.

“The deceased sustained a cut on her head, resulting in her death,” Mr Okema said.

The suspect fled until police picked him on Saturday from a bar in Lacor Trading Centre, some 10 kilometres away.

Police say they will prefer murder charges against the man.
