A baker’s son was shot in the arm by a gun-wielding customer in a bizarre showdown over stale breadrolls. Police in Costa Rica say the bust up began when the baker refused to take back the buns he had sold to a woman at the end of the day. According to local media the irate customer returned to the shop in La Rita de Pococi with her husband.
As the couple argued with the baker and his family, the woman’s husband ran to their car and came back brandishing a shotgun.
Shocking video footage shows him aiming his gun at the family as the baker’s son, Dennis Kalet Vega, walked towards him with his arms outstretched.
Dennis reportedly told the gunman that if he wanted to shoot someone, he should shoot him.
The gunman then fired instantly, hitting astonished Dennis in the right arm.
As the victim collapsed in agony, his father fled inside and the gunman and his wife drove off.
Local media reported that Vega was being treated for gunshot wounds and multiple fractures.
Police – who have not named the gunman – say the suspect has not yet been arrested.
